Keyclasher

PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: July 2026

Overview

Keyclasher ("we," "us," "the site") is a browser-based typing-race game. This policy explains what information we collect when you use it, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We built Keyclasher to be fun to race on, not to harvest data — the list below is genuinely everything we collect, not a vague catch-all.

Who We Are

Keyclasher is an independently operated project. For any privacy question or request, see the Contact page.

Information We Collect

  • Account information: if you create an account, your email address and a password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your raw password) plus the display name you choose.
  • Profile information: display name, avatar image (if you upload one), country/flag selection, and your premium account status.
  • Gameplay data: race and practice results — words per minute, accuracy, consistency, which content language (English or Russian) you played in, and timestamps. This is what powers your personal stats, the leaderboard, and Practice Mode's adaptive difficulty.
  • Multiplayer connection data: live multiplayer races connect players directly peer-to-peer (WebRTC). Establishing that connection requires relaying your IP address through a third-party TURN relay service (Metered.ca) when a direct connection isn't possible — this relay only sees connection metadata, not your typing content.
  • Local storage: your content-language preference (English/Russian) and, if signed in, your session token are stored in your browser's local storage — this data never leaves your device except to authenticate with our backend.
  • Advertising data: if you are not a premium subscriber, pages may display ads served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies and similar technology to personalize ads and measure their performance — see "Third-Party Services" below.

How We Use It

  • To operate your account, save your progress, and show it back to you.
  • To power the leaderboard and multiplayer matchmaking.
  • To adapt Practice Mode's word selection to the letters you personally struggle with.
  • To keep the site secure and diagnose bugs.
  • To serve and measure advertising, for free-tier accounts only.

Legal Basis for Processing (EU/UK Visitors)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your data under the following legal bases: performance of a contract (running your account and gameplay), legitimate interests (site security, abuse prevention), and consent (advertising personalization, which you can accept or decline through the consent prompt shown on your first visit).

Cookies & Similar Technology

We use local storage for essential functionality (session, language preference) and, for non-premium accounts, Google AdSense may set cookies for ad delivery and measurement. Where required by law (EU/UK visitors), you'll be asked to consent to non-essential cookies before they're set.

Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of infrastructure providers to run Keyclasher:

  • Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (avatars).
  • Vercel — website hosting.
  • Metered.ca — TURN relay for multiplayer WebRTC connections.
  • Google AdSense & Google's advertising partners— ad delivery, for free-tier accounts. Google's Funding Choices consent tool manages your ad-personalization preferences where legally required.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how they process data on our behalf.

Data Retention

We keep account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion (see "Your Rights" below), we'll delete your account data within a reasonable time, except where we're required to retain something for legal or security reasons.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your personal data, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing (like ad personalization). We don't currently have a self-service delete button in your account settings — to exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address on our Contactpage and we'll handle it directly.

Children's Privacy

Keyclasher is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.

International Data Transfers

Our infrastructure providers may process and store data outside your home country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on those providers' own safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do; significant changes will be noted on this page.
